Smoke and heat alarms: what we fit and where

Interlinked alarms mean one going off sets them all off. Here's where they go in a typical house.

Interlinked smoke and heat alarms on a hallway ceiling

On most rewires and many smaller jobs we fit mains-powered alarms that are linked together. If one alarm detects smoke, every alarm in the house sounds.

Where they usually go

  • Smoke alarms in the hallway and on each landing
  • A smoke alarm in the main living room
  • A heat alarm in the kitchen, where smoke alarms would give false alarms

As a standalone job, interlinked smoke and heat alarms are £200 per alarm fitted. As part of a full rewire, each alarm is priced as one point at £100. Ask us for a quote.
